Jenny and Dax

Facebook Love Story - Jenny and DaxMeet Jenny and Dax who found love on Facebook.

If you didn’t know one of the biggest secrets on Facebook, it’s the conversations that go on in the private groups where chatting and dating has resulted in love.

When Jenny, who lives in Canton, Ohio, joined the Facebook private group called “Super Specials,” created by a blogger friend of hers, she didn’t have love or dating on her mind.

Meanwhile Dax, who was from St. Mary’s, Georgia, joined the group and started flirting big time.

The wisecracks, according to Jenny, got her hooked and she sent him a Facebook friend request, which Dax accepted.

Jenny noticed the bad jokes on Dax’s Facebook page and the two then started chatting privately on Facebook.

Six months later, the two decided to meet IRL in Charleston, South Carolina.

Jenny traveled from Ohio to Charleston and Dax come up from Georgia.

“We felt like we were a couple before we even met, ” said Jenny. ”

She added, “The first time we spoke on the phone, there was something familiar in his voice and we just had a connection.”

Before their big meeting, Dax had told Jenny, “I’m going to kiss you right when I see you!” And he did.

The two started a long-distance relationship and got together for long weekends once a month for 1.5 years, but they knew that someone would have to move. Jenny tried to get her company to let her work remotely in Georgia, but it turned out that was not an option. Finally, Dax started to look for work in Ohio. Without success, he picked up and moved to Ohio to be with the woman he loved. A few months later, he landed a job in his field and then his son joined him in Ohio.

So is there a happy ending? You bet. Jenny and Dax were married in September in her back yard. Her friend Chris, who started the Facebook group, officiated the wedding.

It was three years from the day Jenny joined the Facebook group until her wedding day. The family now includes Jenny’s two daughter’s and two cats, Dak’s son and basset hound, and all together, they are a happy family of eight.

Congratulations to Jenny and Dax who proved that joining a private group on Facebook could result in a happily ever after.

My Very Own Facebook Love Story

When I first created Facebook Love Stories in 2013, I saw the large trend of singles finding love on Facebook, as well as couples who reunited with a little help from digital Cupid. The stories kept pouring in, as I continued to provide dating coaching services to singles looking for love online.

Little did I know, that three years later, my long-lost-love would find me and we’d reconnect on Facebook. Call is karma, call it fate, but at the end of the digital day, I have my own Facebook Love Story to share with the world.

When I first joined a dating site, over 20 years ago, it was after a recent broken up with the person I thought was the love of my life. At the time, I was considered an online dating pioneer. I collected my stories, but knew it was too soon to share them with the world. Both to heal my heart and help others, my first book The Perils of Cyber-Dating was published and became a bestseller. I had no idea that 7 years after the book was released, my long-lost-love would get divorced. He read my book and blog seeking dating advice, from the woman he referred to as the love of HIS life.

When we initially connected on Facebook, we chatted on instant messenger trying to fill in the pieces of the long time we had been apart. A week later, we met in person and our eyes locked again in a similar way as they had the first time we met, 23 years earlier.

At our reunion, we went down memory lane and eventually decided to live ACT 3 of our love story.

Facebook Love Story – Martha and Lawrence

Facebook Love StoryThis love story began innocently in 2009 when Martha was searching for her son’s uncle named Larry Grant on Facebook.

Martha found a page of a man named Lawrence Grant and reached out to him to see if there was a family relation. Lawrence replied that he wasn’t related, but in the spirit of social networking, they friended each other. Little did they know that it would become the beginning of a beautiful relationship between the two of them.

At the time they became Facebook friend, both Martha and Lawrence were both involved in other relationships; both of which were not going so smoothly. They kept their Facebook friendship platonic with only simple “hi’s” and “how are things” and commenting occasionally on each others’ posts.
They later lost contact via Facebook because Martha’s now ex-bf snooped (hacked) into her Facebook and saw a comment from Lawrence directed to someone else and thought it was for Martha. He became jealous and made her delete Lawrence as a friend.

Later in 2010, Martha and Lawrence regained contact when after going through a breakup with her ex, Martha was going through Facebook deleting pictures and found a comment on one of her photos from Lawrence. She again emailed Lawrence to see if he was related to another person in the Grant family, but in reality, she just wanted to reconnect with him.

This time, both of them were single. They began communicating more on Facebook until one day Lawrence asked Martha for her phone number. They began to speak to each other more frequently and expressed a willingness to meet each other. The only problem was, Martha lived in Windsor, CA and Lawrence lived in Roseville, CA. Martha had some idea of the travel required between the two cities but Lawrence had no idea.

Time passed and passed and they communicated a little less than they previously had; and they still had not met as anticipated. But one day they started to have discussions about football. Martha’s team was the Saints and Lawrence’s was the Raiders. In common, they both liked the Raiders. Superbowl XLV was approaching; the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Lawrence did not like the Pittsburgh Steelers and wedged a bet with Martha that the Packers would beat them. Martha accepted, what was at stake? If Martha won, Lawrence would go to Windsor and meet her and if Lawrence won Martha would come to Roseville. On February 6, 2011 the Packers defeated the Steelers by the score of 31–25. Lawrence won the bet and it was time for Ms. Martha to pay up… and that day was to be Saturday March 26, 2011

On this, a cold and somewhat rainy day, Lawrence’s mother went into the hospital and was admitted overnight. This jeopardized the meeting between Lawrence and Martha and threatened yet another delay in their journey to meet up. Fortunately, Lawrence’s mother illness wasn’t serious and she was just kept for overnight observation. So the meeting remained on track.

Martha arrived later that evening in what Lawrence knows “today” to be her favorite place “the mall”. Upon laying eyes on Martha for the first time, Lawrence was floored and excited to be getting to go out on a date with such a beautiful young lady. Martha was delighted to finally meet what she considered to be a “real man” and was also very happy with his physical appearance as well. From this date forward the two became inseparable.

Lawrence would drive two hours to see Martha every other week and visa versa Martha would do the same. On their second date, Lawrence was able to meet Martha’s three wonderful children, Leticia (22), Alonzo (15), and DeVante (13). On April 2, 2011 even though Lawrence and Martha considered themselves a couple, they declared themselves as such publicly. On Saturday, August 14, 2011 Martha and Lawrence spent a romantic weekend in a luxury suite at the Thunder Valley Casino Hotel & Resort where Lawrence proposed to Martha. Martha said YES! A year later, they were married.

Congratulations to Martha and Lawrence who prove that a simple search on Facebook could result in a happily ever after.

Happy 10th Birthday Facebook – Dating and Love Stories

Facebook 10th BirthdayFacebook is celebrating a big birthday. It’s been a decade since Mark Zuckerberg founded “thefacebook” while in college on February 4, 2004.

Ten years later, Facebook boasts over 1.2 billion users. One has to ask, is Facebook now the world’s largest digital dating site?

Just how many couples are flirting, connecting, hooking up, and even finding love on Facebook?

When I launched Facebook Love Stories on Valentine’s Day last year, I was intrigued to see the variety of ways that people found love on the world’s largest social network.

Here are six couples whose love stories will warm your digital heart.

Bonnie and Josh

Facebook Love Story - Bonnie and JoshBonnie and Josh had met 30 years earlier at an advertising agency in New York.

“Working in different departments meant that our professional paths didn’t cross much, but we often rode the Fifth Avenue bus home together, as our apartments were in the same neighborhood,” said Bonnie. The two married others and lost touch, until Bonnie’s son created a Facebook page for her a few years ago.

Bonnie decided to look for old friends and thought about Josh. “I sent him a message asking if he remembered me and he responded within hours, so excited to hear from me,” said Bonnie. Within three days they were talking on the phone for hours at a time, and within weeks made a date for dinner. Josh showed up with carrot cake and a dozen bagels and Bonnie was hooked. The two were engaged the following New Year’s Eve, and were married August of 2012.

The couple’s wedding cake was a delicious Fifth Avenue bus. “In my wildest dreams I’d never have imagined that Facebook would change my life, but it did. It reconnected me with Josh, and I consider it a miracle,” said Bonnie.

Sophie and Trevor

Facebook Love Story - Sophie and TrevorSophie and Trevor were both members of a “Star Wars” Facebook group when they became friends in 2007. Sophie lived in Leeds, England and Trevor resided in Indiana where he was attending University. Neither were interested in developing a long-distance relationship. The two became fast friends as they shared their mutual love of fan fiction.

After three months, Sophie and Trevor decided to meet in person and selected Berlin as the city for their first date. Later that year, they realized they were falling in love.

Over the next several years, the two commuted between Indiana and England, as their relationship flourished.

Both Sophie and Trevor acknowledge that Facebook played a huge part in keeping them connected, during the time of their long-distance relationship.

In 2012, the two finally got married in New York City and are finally living on the same continent, in each others’ arms in the Big Apple.

Meca and Anthony

Facebook Love Story - Meca and AnthonyFor about four years, Meca and Anthony were digital friends on Facebook, but they never really had much contact with each other. The two shared a lot of mutual Facebook friends and even attended offline events at the same time twice, but they never actually met in person.

As a divorced woman, Meca started blogging about her dating experiences and posted her stories on Facebook. Anthony silently enjoyed reading about Meca’s latest dates and started sending her private messages on Facebook.

“I wanted to know why a girl like her was single,” said Anthony. Their romance developed on Facebook chat privately and finally one day they decided to exchange phone numbers.

Meca was very hesitant at first, especially as Anthony was an artist. As an accessory designer, Meca didn’t think she wanted to date an abstract painter. “I don’t date artists,” she proclaimed. Soon they discovered that they were indeed soul mates.

The two have decided to save the mushy stuff for the privacy of their inbox.

Patience and Sam

Facebook Love StoriesPatience had a secret crush on Sam in high school, but felt that he was out of her league. They never dated and barely acknowledged each other in the halls. During a formal high school dance, after her date had ditched her, Patience was shocked when Sam asked her to dance and pulled her into a random picture.

Fast forward twenty-six years later, where Sam was divorced and teaching college in Israel. Patience was busy with her publishing career in New York and had serial dated for two decades. When Sam noticed her familiar face in the “Suggested Friends” feature, he immediately sent Patience a “friends’ request.

For Patience, it was a no-brainer to be in contact with such a popular guy from high school. She started “liking” his status updates. Sam picked up the phone and called her. After several months of Skype and Facebook chats, the two fell in love.

Sam asked Patience if he could visit and possibly “marry and father her children.” All of her girlfriends thought she was crazy, but she knew there was a connection there. In fact, they had a deal. He would come visit and would leave if they thought it was weird. Fortunately, that was not the case. The two are now happily married and are living in New York. Sam still has the photo from their first dance in high school.

Alexa and Devin

Facebook Love Story - Alexa and DevinAlexa was hoping to find someone on an online dating site, but was frustrated with the process. Her friends said she’d find someone when she least expected it. That someone was Devin who she met on Facebook.

Devin thought Alexa was cute when he noticed her photo in the “People You Should Know” feature.

“One day I received a ‘friend’ request from someone I didn’t know named Devin,” said Alexa. “We had one mutual friend in common, so I thought I might have met him somewhere and just didn’t remember. He was the first person in my six years of being on Facebook that I added without knowing in real life,” she added.

The rest is history and the two have been inseparable since meeting on Facebook.

Taunia and Jake

Facebook Love Story - Taunia and JakeTauna and Jake went down digital memory lane and rekindled their college romance on Facebook.

It all started twenty years ago when Taunia met Jake while in school. The two dated for 2.5 years and then went their separate ways to pursue their career aspirations. “We always knew we were each other’s ‘true love,’’ said Taunia.

Twenty years and a lot of life lessons went by. Taunia had gastric bypass surgery in 2008. She got married, established her musical career, and developed an online following, particularly on Facebook.

Tania reconnected with one of Jake’s sisters on Facebook. When Jake’s sister noticed Tania’s relationship status as “Divorced,” she told her brother. Jake immediately contacted Taunia to reconnect and their romance reignited. Jake proposed to Taunia in a romantic holiday trip in front of the Eifel Tower and the two were married in the summer of 2013.
